Apply to become a Board Member

March 7, 2024

As your current Board, we are inviting community members to join us in this work.

Two weeks ago Hope Springs celebrated our 29th birthday, the anniversary of the auction where Suzanne & Al purchased the land that is now our home. For those who know astrology, this place is experiencing its Saturn Return, a time in a life cycle that can be rocky, but also serves to grow us up.

It’s with that energy that we issue this call.

I’m at Hope Springs as I write you this note. It’s March and the daffodils bloom along the driveway. Jan Flynn (former & maybe future board member) tells me a story about how she was gifted bulbs when she visited Alice Walker’s family homestead in Putnam County, Georgia some years ago and planted them here near the kitchen.

Those that find their way to Hope Springs come to lead, gather, share, connect, leave flowers.

Hope Springs is in a tender place of transition, a time that calls new ways of being and doing. We are seeking to transform the culture that has led to the departure of so many board and staff members over the years. At its simplest, we want to move away from scarcity and towards abundance.

Will you answer the call?

This invitation is for you if you are interested in being part of a working board. We need people who have the capacity to devote several hours a week (or more!) to this work, including governance, fundraising, and strategic vision. We need people who will show up with more questions than answers. We need people who know how to lead from a place of love. We also need people with experience in nonprofit governance, organizational development, facilities management, and resource development.

Current bylaws state that we can have up to 11 board members, that means we could bring on as many as eight people in the coming months. We would love to have a diverse board, both in the ways we typically understand that, but also in diversity of experience. If you are passionate about seeing Hope Springs thrive, we want to talk to you - regardless of “qualifications”.

Board & Committee Member Application

We know it takes a village to raise a child, and we could say the same thing about Hope Springs.

Being a small nonprofit, that means our community's talents and volunteering hearts are needed even more. We welcome qualified and committed community members to  join the Board's efforts to assist operations and financial growth.

Complete the board interest form and you’ll be invited to a conversation with current board members. Growing and developing a full board is a top priority for us, so we hope to move with intentional and swift committed action.

Thank you for your interest!
