About The Event
ABOUT THE EVENT
Most of us will have 20 to 25 years of life to live after we retire. The question is “how do I live this ‘third act’ to the fullest, ageing with grace and purpose?” Sage-ing is a model for engaging more deliberately, more joyfully, and more compassionately in all aspects of life as we grow older.
Based on the ground-breaking book From Age-ing to Sage-ing: A Profound New Vision of Growing Older by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, we will explore:
- Living as a conscious elder; exploring what it means to age with grace and purpose
- Reviewing our lives; looking at the past with what I know now and what I have learned
- The importance of relationships; letting go, healing past hurts, and understanding forgiveness
- Embracing our mortality; creating peace of mind
- Creating your legacy; looking at how you want to be remembered
- Discovering your gifts as an emerging elder; finding your purpose
This online workshop series will occur across three gatherings:
Tuesday, April 26th, 2022 (1:00pm ET-3:00pm ET)
Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022 (1:00pm ET-3:00pm ET)
Tuesday, May 10th, 2022 (1:00pm ET-3:00pm ET)
LEADERSHIP TEAM
Jan Flynn, Sageing Leader Intern, Co-facilitator: Among other things, Jan Flynn, Ph.D. is a businesswoman, a consultant, a retired University business professor, a mother, a grandmother, an avid horsewoman, and a certified Bar B Que judge. For the past 15 years, her academic and consulting work has focused on transition from one generation to the next in family businesses. Seeing her older clients struggle with letting go and moving on to the next phase of their lives, she began to explore the work of ageing, particularly as it relates to embracing growing older with grace and purpose. Along with doing work in the process of Conscious Eldering, Jan is in the final phase of training to become a Certified Sageing Leader with Sage-ing International. A former Hope Springs board member, she has been a part of the Hope Springs Community for more than 20 years.
Nan Miller, Co-facilitator: Nan retired from public service about 5 years ago. She went from a management position in the Department of Defense to social services work where she helped older adults, a transition spurred by her father’s Alzheimer’s Disease. She attained a Certificate of Gerontology from the Wright State University graduate school of Social Work. She has no children and her focus has been the other end of life. She is happy to share wisdom of interest from her work, her retirement, her cancer journey and her life experiences. Nan began coming to Hope Springs soon after its inception and remains a devoted supporter.
