Alice Lovelace

Alice Lovelace is a cultural worker who uses her talents to work for social and economic justice. She is a published author, performance poet, award-winning playwright, essayist, and organizer. Recent publications include a book of poetry titled forever and the anthology CRUX: A conversation in words and images South Africa to South US, which she edited. Alice is coeditor of "Art Changes" at In Motion Magazine, an on-line publication devoted to issues of democracy, and is a contributing writer for the online version of Community Arts Network. A partial list of publication include: The Love Anthology; The Citizen Artist: 20 Years of Art in the Public Arena from Critical Press; Drumvoices, Volume 9 and Drumvoices Revue, Volume 11 published by Southern Illinois University Press; Catalyst Magazine; Var Losen; High Performance Magazine, Up Town/On The Town, Photography Quarterly; Hoo Doo 61/2; and Black Poetry of the 80's From the Deep South. Past honors include numerous awards the Fund for Southern Communities’ Torchbearers Award; Project South Voice of the Movement Award; Georgia Writers Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Democratic Socialists of America’s Frederick Douglas-Eugene Debs Award. She was the National Lead Staff Organizer for the first United States Social Forum in 2007 and currently serves as the Associate Regional Director for American Friends Service Committee overseeing programs in the southeast region.
